Papakōwhai Shared Pathway
Papakōwhai, Porirua, Wellington
As part of Porirua City Council’s initiative to improve safety and connectivity, we were engaged by John Fillmore Contracting to carry out parts of the Papakōwhai Shared Pathway Improvements. This is a new community-focused pathway designed to provide a safe, accessible space for both pedestrians and cyclists.
Our team completed a broad scope of civil works to upgrade the area’s active transport infrastructure and improve safety across key access points.
Our Scope included:
Construction of new retaining walls to support shared path alignment
Replacement of existing concrete driveways
Installation of new kerbing
Upgraded intersections with raised table crossings to prioritise pedestrian safety
Installation of new ducting for street lighting
Relocation of an existing gas main to accommodate new infrastructure
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to building safer, more connected communities. The shared pathway enhances everyday accessibility for local residents and contributes to Porirua’s wider investment in a sustainable, more climate-resilient way of life.
The Papakōwhai Shared Pathway was an IPWEA (Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia) finalist for the Best Public Works Project over $5m in 2025.
